Green Star™ Rating (GSR)

The Green Star™ Rating (GSR, patented) is a classification system developed by industry professionals designed to allow the formulation chemist the ability to maximize the natural component in products. The higher the Green™ Star Rating, the more 'green' the product.

Determining the Green Star™ Rating:

• Step one - determine the chemical formula for the product.

  Example - Sodium lauryl sulfate from naturally derived lauryl alcohol

  C₁₂H₂₅SO₄Na

• Step two - determine which parts of the molecule are natural (derived from green natural raw materials) and which are synthetic.

  Example - Sodium lauryl sulfate

  Natural - C₁₂H₂₅O

  Synthetic - SO₃Na

• Step three - use the patented Green Star™ Rating system online calculator below or download a spreadsheet.

  To use the form below, type in values for the Number rows of both the Natural Portion and Synthetic Portion and click the Calculate button to calculate the Green Star™ Rating.
